If you missed the big speech President Obama has been promising to deliver on jobs, let me give you the short version:
Tax, tax tax. Spend, spend, spend.
Tax the rich, hire more teachers, build roads and extend unemployment benefits. Oh, and if you have any ideas like smaller government or less government spending, he rejects your ideas.
What a waste of 33 minutes!
Obama calls for tax cuts on businesses that hire new workers or give workers raises, but there were no details and you can bet the government strings would be long, many and tough. He adopted a “if you hire them, they will come” attitude. But the truth is, businesses are not going to hire someone they don’t need just to get a tax cut. They will still have to pay out more money.
And again the President mentions Warren Buffett paying a lower tax rate than his secretary, but he failed to mention that Buffett is a billion dollars behind in his taxes. He may be able to afford to pay more, but most of us would be happy if he just paid what he owed.
The president said he wants to see Koreans driving American cars – those made by overpaid union thugs that spend more time campaigning for Obama than building cars. And most of the pro union folks heard exactly what they wanted to hear.
And Obama is fine with reducing a couple of regulations (for now) to pretend he has done what Republicans want him to do.
All in all, this was a call for more spending and higher taxes with a bit of sugar in the form of “Republicans supported this in the past” garbage.
If you had any reason to believe this was anything more than a campaign speech disguised as a jobs speech, your hopes were dashed at Obama’s out of hand rejection of “rigid” (he means Constitutional) ideas like smaller government and less spending.
To be sure, Obama said he was willing to look at ways to save money, but he failed to offer things like “his” and “her’s” jets to Martha’s Vineyard and his “fly my big black bus to the next stop so I won’t actually have to ride it” expenses.
There is no doubt that America will not get better before the 2012 election. This president will never get it.
America’s future lies in voting this failure out of office.
